Thank you again, patrons, for your support. Here is the newest addition to your ever-blossoming vocabularies. If you missed it, this Tuesday, I wrote about what the lovely Allison H. kindly summarized as “God’s unique work in each individual, our limitations as humans, the culture and milieus around us, and what we truly love.”
This one set a fire in the comments section (like a friendly bonfire, not a wretched act of arson), so if you want to interact with some fellow readers, this is a good place to start!
Also, it’s my birthday (as of Thursday, upon which I write this). If you’re a free subscriber and feeling generous…
Become the Prince Leopold to my J.S. Bach.
Leopold was one of Bach’s patrons, and it is thanks to his willingness to support the arts that we now can listen to such masterworks as the Toccata and Fugue in Dm.
I may not be as great as Bach, but you give me the opportunity to try. You see, without Prince Leopold, Bach wouldn’t have had the chance to practice his skills as a composer. He would not have had the income to support his years of production. Heck, in those days, he wouldn’t even have been able to afford the paper on which his scores were written.
And if that doesn’t convince you—jUst tHInK of thE cHilDren! *sobs fakely* (double-chinned child pictured above, very obviously not malnourished).
This really was an amazing day, full of friends and food, and I am now a full quarter-century old, which means I’m 24.7% to my full lifespan goal, which is one-hundred-and-one, because that’s the time it will take for me to live in THREE CENTURIES (20th, 21st, 22nd).
Anyway, time to move onward, beyond the paywall…
