Girl, this is WI-LD. Part of me hopes he was just stirring up controversy to generate more views via the algorithm, and doesn't actually believe that the worth of nature is measured by the profit it can generate. But doing anything for the views probably sinks to the same level of moral depravity as genuinely believing what he says.
I appreciate the sentiment; you're right about how culture seems to be going in an anti-human direction. Why, indeed, does everything seems to get wrangled into some kind of profit-making enterprise? Also, loved your quotation of "Ozymandias, " one of my favorite poems. We've all got to be vigilant and resist the dehumanizing tendency as much as we can; my own contribution to the resistance is this little essay, which I hope you find amusing and entertaining (it is also in that "unpublishable" category): https://www.ruins.blog/p/the-long-paragraph
Just saved your essay so I can look at it whenever I’m feeling down. It’s full of comfort and humor. I’m thinking you might really enjoy this podcast episode from Hardcore Literature. He talks at great length about the need to be prolific (aka write WAY too much) in order to produce anything worth reading—and picks some interesting gems of anecdote and advice from the lives of various authors. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/hardcore-literature/id1485574125?i=1000620937708
